Blocking Facebook reels
While there are a lot of annoying things on Facebook, including Facebook itself, Facebook Reels have to be about the most annoying.
If I wanted "reels", I'd go to Instagram, or TikTok, or one of the many other applications that show short videos.
I keep clicking on Facebook Reels, and selecting "Not interested", but they keep popping up.
Thankfully, there is any easy way to prevent them from showing up at all, at least in a web browser.
Prevent Facebook reels from appearing
This works for either Firefox, or Chrome.
-
Install uBlock Origin from the browser's app store.
-
Browse to Facebook, and wait for one of the annoying Reels to pop up.
-
Right click on the top of the Reels section, and select Block element... from the drop down menu.
- In the box that pops up, delete what is shown, and add: ##div[aria-label=Reels], and then click Create
- The existing Reels section is mostly gone, but they will not show up further in your Facebook feed.
